Purposes of Practicum
The purposes of this practicum are to help the pre-service student to enhance the pedagogic skills, create the global mind, cultural experiences and globally competitive future teacher. Furthermore developing the english skill of the pre-service student. After the practicum was done, I as a pre-service student completely achieved those purposes since i found my self having a lot of improvements.
Procedures of Practicum
Selection Process
Before we got the receiving university. The International Office of Universitas Jambi (UNJA) announced the selection requirements to join this program. The selection phases are below:

Sending to Receiving University
University of Saint Anthony (USANT) generated the opening ceremony for us as pre-service students. Based on the rule from Indonesia curriculum, we need to meet 20 hours both teaching assisting and actual teaching. Then our coordinator from USANT, gave us the schedule of observation and teaching practice. I did the first week of observation and the second week of actual teaching. The days i spent for my teaching practice were 3 days which were 9 hours on 3 sections i taught and the rest hours are teaching assisting.
Outcomes of Practicum
Personal Development
This program totally strengthened my critical thinking skill, the English skill especially in pronouncing fluently, enriched another English accent (Philipino accent) since i spoke British accent, and powerfully increased my public communication skill. Furthermore this program successfully established my self to be discipline, independent, creative, and friendly teacher. Lastly, this program ultimately created my self to be globally cultured people with a lot of knowledge of values and affectionate person.
Professional Development
This program also beneficially improved my professional development. The improvement i found were the knowledge of curriculum of my native country which is curriculum 2013. Since i have to teach the students with Philipines curriculum, K-12, as foreign curriculum for me, it was really helpful to strengthen the pedagogic skill once i teach foreigners students and natives students . So i was successfully figured out the differences and the similarities of both Philipines and Indonesian curriculum.
The Challenges of Practicum
Cross Major
I ought to teach based on my special study, biology. Nevertheless, since Philipines curriculum has a special study period (quarter) , i as pre-service student indeed have to follow the quarter. Unfortunately, the quarter of biology will be on January. Therefore, i teach earth science (based on this quarter). Since my actual major is not earth science, i thought and put the effort to master that subject (as new knowledge for me). However i successfully overcome this challenge.
Classroom Management
During my actual teaching i have to figure out how to handle the classroom properly since the number of students of each class were more than 20 students (quite massive quantity). Thereupon, i made the different strategy every meeting. Especially the manner of teaching i had to apply differently between advanced and regular class.
Overall Impression
After all this program, i felt so grateful having this fortune to explore myself and potentially amazing culture from another country, Philipines. I thought everything i learned and experienced here are the fancy memories that sheltered in my mind and heart. Since the receiving university people are so hospitability and solicitude to us. I really successfully acquired my potential skill, intensified the teaching skill with new knowledge of Philipines curriculum and classroom atmosphere, inquired the new cultures and belief. A very special thing i will never forget ever after was having people whom i love, i can count on, and i shared my memories with, my Philipino family, who accompanied then fetched us during the program and who share the sincere affection to us.
Suggestions for the Future Improvement
In my point of view, this program is a must to be continued due we met all the expectations yet there are several things that need to be improved. First thing is the communication between receiving university and both sending university and pre-service student should be improved especially for the regular schedule during program and the major of what pre-service student will teach is ought to be linear with their own special major. The second thing is how if SEAMEO and Imigration staffs cooperate to extend the program period and exclude the VISA for this program.
