Observation

DAILY CEREMONY

We were given a chance by USANT coordinator, sir Rafael Onate, to observe different level of USANT’s education which are junior high school, senior high school, and college. As I observed, every section from every level of USANT’s education, they always start the class by praying like Indonesian students do. But in Philipines, especially USANT, they have the ceremony every morning before the class, while in Indonesia, the ceremony is only conducted for every Monday in a week.

College

1st observation

On this observation we were discussing about the linkage of earth, social, and education issues. We were divided by 3 groups, 2 groups of Philipino students while 1 group of Indonesian students. Each group has different issue among other groups. Then we took the example of social and environment issues from Indonesia and we gave the solutions. I was a representative of my friends to deliver our point of view.

2nd observation

On this observation, we focused on how lecturer tried to explain the students and how she lived the classroom situations. As what I observed, the lecturer demonstrated each example of the sub-materials of articulation. Then she gave a chance to the students to answer the questions in front of the class.

Senior High School

1st Observation

This day, the teacher were teaching the sections with same topic that was about ‘Organic Compound’. I saw the teacher tried to make a student center learning by attracted the students to explain by giving the clues.

2nd Observation

Junior High School

This observation, the teacher also tried to use student center learning. He asked the students to give the example of the current issues and how the used their point of view to offer the solutions. The teacher also reinforced the student’s answer by explaining them using the analogical view he put in power point.

On these days, i observed how Mam Clau applied her teaching method in the each sections. Then i learned the differences of the way Mam Clau used to teach SSC and non-SSC section. I also saw the different atmosphere on both of class. So i started to figure out what method that will meet the student’s understanding and needs.

September 11. 2019

Teaching Practice : Procedure and Time Management

During the observation, Mam Clau told me that :

  1. The lesson Plan I will make is semi-detailed one
  2. I will follow the quarter of grade 8, so I will teach earth science subject
  3. I can use the book she lent as a guideline to teach the students. Whereas I can add another information from the internet.
  4. The sections/classes I will handle/teach are two special science class (ssc) and one non special science class (ssc). She said that ssc section is filled by the students who have higher intelligent over non-ssc class.

This day the topic I taught was about the types of seismic waves and tsunami. The method I used for students to understand was demonstration. I gave the video as an example and I asked the representatives of them to demonstrate the types of seismic waves in front of the class. They were happy because the movement of wave was funny when they played/demonstrated in in a group.

Mam Clau always gave me the comments after i have done teaching in the class. This day she reviewed with her and student’s point of view about me. Based on the evaluation, i was really good at speaking english and the students loved my british accent. Moreover i successfully experted the earth science though it was my cross major, and i was friendly, discipline to the students. Meanwhile Mam Clau said what i have to improved was classroom management and sometimes i have to be more assertive when the students are crowded.

September 12, 2019

This day I implemented snowball paper throwing game to recall last topic and the following to discuss. The paper contains the questions. The students who held the paper when the music of was the students who answered the questions. Those who answered perfectly, they got a little gift from me. The students were so excited during the game. But the important thing was the game strengthen their understanding while the classroom situation was still cheerful yet meaningful.

Mam Clau said that there was the improvement of my classroom management while the students really paid attention to me. Mam Clau appreciated the varietive method of learning i used (snowball paper throwing and demonstration) were successfully made the students so excited and she told me that i was really clear both giving them the instructions and explanations during the lesson.

LAST DAY OF ACTUAL TEACHING

“I hope we always learn new things by day with the moments and experiences we shared that shall to be remembered ever after, dear my lovely students”

On this my last actual teaching day, i held the two kind of quiz and last topic to discuss. The first quiz was the last topic while the second quiz was the following materials about earthquake predictions and preparedness. I also used the demonstration method of this topic. The students were demonstrating what should they do during the earthquake.

On this last review Mam Clau did appreciated my significant progressions by days since i always showed the students and explained them the photos and videos of each topics and my understanding of the topics. I was satisfied after checking the students answer of this quiz. Moreover almost all the special science class students achieved a perfect score during my class. Then Mam Clau assessed my teaching practice in evaluation form below. She gave me all advanced point except the point number 3 (Knowledge of How Students Learn). The skill i have to improve is differentiate the manner of teaching the advanced and regular class as what she evaluated me. During these three days of my actual teaching i feel grateful since my coordinating teacher, Mam Clau did really help me to advance the pedagogic skill of me. Moreover i thought possitively since i taught earth science i earned new knowledge too. Here the evaluation below:

September 16, 2019

This day, we filled the schedule of section by watching the movie in audio visual room. The tittle of the movie is The Day After Tomorrow. The movie was telling us about the typhoon which purposely to help the students to relate the understanding of typhoon as the following topic to discuss. The students were asked to make the summary of the movie and to submit it to Mam Clau.

Learning Sources

The learning sources i used to teach was the substances from book and the internet (Photo and video) that i inserted into power point.

The Instruments

Those instruments are the formula of how to make examination questions and the format of the calculation score’s form. Mam Clau taught me how to make my own formulation based on the provisions (on the second photo) and how to calculate the raw score to be the final score.
